Testosterone Therapy Can Lead To Myocardial Infarction, Stroke
While the article itself isn’t directly linked to transmen, this still seems like a finding that transmen should be aware of: a new study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association on some possible long-term consequences of testosterone therapy for some men.
The study, in short, looked at a cohort of older veterans who were diagnosed with low T-levels after a coronary angiography (a test that provides a look at the coronary arteries). The final results showed that “the use of testosterone therapy was significantly associated with adverse outcomes” including an increased risk of myocardial infarctions (i.e. heart attacks) and strokes. Or to put it in plainer terms: this study suggests that T-therapy is hard on the heart.
It’s just one study, in a cohort of men who would be inclined, by age and health, to have heart problems anyway. But awareness is always a good thing.
