Not surprisingly, it seems that everyone is in agreement: I should not hide who I am for the sake of my mother’s comfort when she comes to visit this weekend. Amongst those who have said so:
- My ex
- Friends online
- My gender therapist
- My gender therapy group
- The gender therapy group leader
In fact, Cecelia (the group therapy leader) said I should not only not hide, I should take my mother with me when I grocery shop this weekend! [You may recall that I do my grocery shopping in Ali Mode now.] I don’t think I can cross that bridge — not unless the moment feels exactly right, which it won’t — but I can certainly try to be brave in being true to myself during their visit.
No doubt there will be blog entries while she’s here. I will keep you all updated.
