Depathologizing transsexuals in Spain – PubMed
Here’s an article newly listed that addresses an important point in trans science: the advantages of depathologizing transgender. From the abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To identify the strengths and weaknesses of Spanish healthcare protocols for transsexual persons and to compare them to current international protocols. To review the current status as regards transsexuality etiology and prevalence. To suggest measures to optimize care to achieve a significant improvement, including options for saving financial resources.
Any report that offers ways to “optimize care” and “[save] financial resources” for transgender patients is something worth reading. The conclusions offered in the abstract are vague enough that I’d like to read the entire article for its more detailed conclusions, especially since I don’t know what Spain’s current practices are. It will be a neat comparison; maybe there’s recommendations in there that would also be effective in other countries.
