Psychiatric characteristics in transsexuals — PubMed
Watch out for this one to pop up in some of the transphobic stuff out there that claims we’re all just crazy people. According to a new study:
People with gender identity disorder show more psychiatric problems than the general population; mostly affective and anxiety problems are found.
So it’s a “what came first” question here: the trans or the psychiatric problems? One could argue that being trans creates anxiety and affective disorders; or one could argue that untreated anxiety and affective disorders can make one mistakenly feel trans. The study doesn’t hypothesize one way or the other; but haters can always spin things their way.
